August Is Turf Improvement Month At Riverwalk
Riverwalk Golf Club’s turf improvement summer project is nearly complete. The project began in July with the re-sodding of fairways #2 and #5 on the Friars course. By the time the project is completed, all fairways on the Friars course will be re-sodded along with a handful of small areas on the Mission and Presidio courses.

More than 150,000 square feet of turf has been committed, which Riverwalk General Manager Brendan Cronin says is the most in the history of the course’s seasonal upgrade.

“We usually do it this time of year because it’s the growing season and the soil temperatures are warm,” he said. “It ensures we have good turf the rest of the year.”

Improved areas are marked as Ground Under Repair (GUR) during the grow-in period to give the grass a chance to establish itself.  The re-sodded areas usually re-open for play several weeks after installation.

Cronin extends his thanks and appreciation to Riverwalk golfers for their etiquette and understanding during this maintenance period.

To the golfers, Cronin said, “We appreciate their patience and cooperation avoiding where the grass is growing and for allowing the maintenance crew to work while play is going on.”

A special thanks is also directed to all the Riverwalk maintenance crew for their tireless effort completing this project.
